Ciprofloxacin Hcl is Quinolone
Antibiotic belonging to the fluoroquinolones class of drugs. This
antibiotic fights bacteria in the body, and is prescribed to treat
various types of bacterial infections of skin, lungs, airways, bones
and joints. The infection caused by susceptible bacteria is best
treated by Ciprofloxacin. It is also frequently used to treat
urinary infections caused by E.coli. Ciprofloxacin is one of the
most effective drugs for treating infectious diarrheas caused by E.
coli, campylobacter jejuni and shigella bacterias.
Usage:
Ciprofloxacin is also prescribed for preventing infections in
people having stomach or intestinal surgery or endoscopic
procedures. The drug works by entering the bacterial cells and
inhibiting a bacterial enzyme called DNA-gyrase. Some doctors also
prescribe Ciprofloxacin for certain serious infections such as
tuberculosis and for some of the infections common in people with
AIDS.
Ciprofloxacin is prescribed for
treating :
Bacterial infections of the lungs and airways
(respiratory tract)
Bacterial ear, nose and throat infections such
as sinusitis, otitis media and otitis externa.
Bacterial eye infections such as bacterial
conjunctivitis.
Bacterial infections of the urinary tract
Bacterial infections of kidney
(pyelonephritis), urethritis
Bacterial infection of the prostate gland
(prostatitis)
Bacterial infections of the skin and soft
tissue
Bacterial infections of bones and joints, such
as osteomyelitis and septic arthritis
Bacterial infections of abdominal, such as
peritonitis or abdominal abscesses
Bacterial infections of the stomach and
intestines
Bacterial infection of the blood (septicaemia
or blood poisoning)
Ciprofloxacin is available in both capsules
